Kayla Myers, Miss Liberty Bell 2018
Kayla hails from Pennsburg, Pennsylvania where she resides with her mother, Melissa, and her sister, Emily. Kayla is currently a student at Temple University where she is working toward a major of Exercise and Sport Science. Upon obtaining her Bachelor degree, Kayla intends to pursue a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy. Kayla is passionate about cheerleading and fitness and hopes to one day coach a cheerleading team.
Kayla was inspired with her platform, “Fight the Fight; Find the Cure for Cancer” as a result of watching a friend deal with a cancer diagnosis, not once but two times. Initially, Kayla’s friend, Rachael, was diagnosed and treated for lymphoma in 2014. After months of treatment, her cancer went into remission. Unfortunately, her cancer returned in 2017 and she is currently undergoing treatment for the second time in her life. Over the past few months Kayla has witnessed cancer in action and subsequently she is now more determined than ever to work toward eradicating cancer from the face of the earth.
Kayla plans to promote her platform during her year of service by her continued participation in Temple University’s Relay for Life. She also intends to continue her involvement with Miss America’s National Platform of The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals as these hospitals are instrumental in helping children and their families who are dealing with a diagnosis of cancer and other illnesses/diseases.
Kayla also hopes to collect books and donate them to a pediatric cancer ward. She will also participate in several Relay for Life events as well as the CHOP Parkway Run and Walk which also raises money for childhood cancer treatment and research.
